When I snap a photo, I envision the end product. I know exactly how I want the image to look before I take it. Usually when I am photographing, I think of how the photo might intrigue viewers, how it might motivate them and spark thoughts and comments. I take photos to share my perspective with the world and highlight specific qualities, but also to stir a response in my viewers. I usually attempt to capture moments that contain a deeper meaning such as hidden emotions, narratives, and messages. I achieve this through taking portraits—which is my favorite style of photography. A few artists that assisted me in discovering this interest are Carrie Mae Weems, Jamel Shabazz, and LaToya Ruby Frazier. The idea that a single image can contain such a rich narrative is beautifully and uniquely executed by all three of these artists. I am interested in delving deeper into candid and planned photographs.Swallowed, 2022Scapula, 2022
