ARTIST STATEMENT

When I take photographs, I am interested in the idea of longevity. I believe a photo can help us remember the essence of a person. It can also help us remember a time and a place. Taking a photo is a quick process, but a photo lives on beyond the moment it gets taken; it becomes an archive. I like to capture moments as they are enjoyed, and maybe later remembered or mourned.

ABOUT THE ARTIST

Ismael Parache Henry is a senior at Opportunity Charter School in Harlem on 113th Street. He loves to photograph tranquil spaces and dark images with stark lighting. He captures moments in black-and-white and in color, adding a hint of nostalgia, repetition, and beauty. Ismael enjoys taking pictures of everyday life occurrences: he tries to capture moments that he thinks others wouldn’t notice.
