Ian Veras

When people see my photographs, I want them to laugh, to wonder “What’s going on in this picture?" At first, I took photographs because I believed nice things should have nice photos of them. Now I’ve turned my hobby into something others can experience. Bringing my camera to school brings out the emotions that I want to express, all of them positive.  My photographs mostly consist of landscapes and people because I have surrounded myself with those things since I was little. I enjoy looking at skyscrapers and making friends and communicating with people. Sometimes I make my photographs purposely blurry. However, I don’t shake the camera or move too much; the blur comes out naturally. I enjoy expressing myself through my images, which is why most of them are very colorful. Colors are a part of how I express myself in photography because, with vibrancy, I can show positive emotions. My inspirations are Fiona Chen and An-My Lê because their work expresses their lives, which I want to do as well.

Ian Veras

Fifteen years old and a freshman at Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School (WHEELS), Ian Veras thinks he’s a really fun person. He swears he can sing but he does not sing. He has tons of interests, including photography and volleyball. Ian loves talking to people and is often described as hyper because he likes being active to keep from becoming bored. He’s still deciding on what kind of career he wants to pursue but he’ll get there soon.
