In my life as a middle child of four, I serve as the fourth parent, after my parents and big sister. I always wanted to be the person behind the camera, not in front of it. I have always liked taking pictures of things, places, and people. In particular, I love taking pictures of my house and my family, but rather than taking posed pictures, or ones of clean, organized rooms, I take pictures of my house when it is a big mess and when my family is not presentable. Since I have joined Expanding the Walls, I have been introduced to people such as Lorna Simpson, LaToya Ruby Frazier, and Azikiwe Mohammed. The process that goes through my head when making photos is no process; the less you think, the more freedom you have. All that goes through my head is, “Don’t think, just take the picture.” The more you think, the more freedom you are taking from your picture. The point of view gets smaller and more biased.POV, 2021My Home, 2021
