Amunet Jones
Though I may photograph in color, I’m starting to explore black-and-white more because it lends my photos a particular nostalgic feeling. I’m most excited to travel to places I haven’t been to around New York City and to meet new people because New York City is a melting pot of diverse cultures. I take photographs because I want to tell stories. I pay attention to what people are wearing, who they are with, and their environment, which may tell me something about them before I even speak to them. Things that stand out to me People on the street stand out to me when they fit my themes —youth, happiness, and life experience. I want to share my experience of life through my lenses. I usually like to walk around the city and look for anything interesting. I will sometimes ask people if I can take a portrait of them or I will take photos of busy public places, such as parks. Photographers I am inspired by include Park Sung Jin for his black-and-white photographs, which are very youthful and nostalgic, and James Van Der Zee, whose work reminds me of old Hollywood films. I am also inspired by aesthetically pleasing photos and portraits on Pinterest and my favorite music videos because every video still looks like it could be a photograph. Amunet Jones,
