Alexa Ramirez

Age: 14 St. Jean Baptiste High SchoolIt started off as a joke. I did it for the money. Now it’s a passion. An obsession, you might say. I enjoy capturing moments and looking at my surroundings in a different perspective. My work has an array of colors, especially reds and pinks, passionate colors to me. I love playing around and finding new details I might not have noticed before, which I feel is very important. Focusing on the background and behind-the-scenes is my favorite part. My inspiration in photography is Lorna Simpson. She once said, “In my work, there's a mechanism that is ‘real,’ which is formed from the historical concepts of the images that I'm working with. That doesn't fall completely into a cliché. There are elements about it that carry historical context and edges.” I relate to her statement in the sense that whenever I take photos, I feel like I am in the moment. I feel real. I feel like the best version of myself.
